(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ive been reported at least 3 times for using the UFO mod. Im a little worried I might get my IP address banned from PSN. Then again theres a modder or 2 in every match you go into. Do you think IW would ban half the people playing online?... or do you think they'll just patch it and take no action for the thousands of people who modded within the past week?

Im not 100% sure the 3 ppl who said they were gonna report me actually did... one of them sounded serious

I did a random report on someone who was using the mod (TPT94)... all it asked me was which game he was cheating on. After I submitted the report I immediately got the response "please report this to Activision".
Does this mean Sony is basically saying "not our problem", or is it just to buy time?

At risk of appearing to be a troll...I have to say I hope they do ban all players who have hacked CoD4 - even if it's only for a few months.

I've been playing CoD4 for over a year and it is (imho) one of the best online experiences to be had...at least until a few days ago anyway when I started seeing other players flying..walking through walls...shooting from underground...in crates... etc etc.

Pretty funny the first time you see it (for maybe 30 seconds) and then it's just annoying. It's no exaggeration to say that it's destroying the CoD4 online community.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would bother hacking what is an almost perfect game. Are you really such a poor player that you need to cheat to do well? It's the most selfish and short-sighted tactic there is. Do you not realise that if everyone starts uses the hack the game becomes pointless?

Everyone has cheated at something...I would on occasion use cheat codes or whatever on PC/Console games if I was stuck on a certain level. But at the end of the day that's just me and my console. When you hack CoD4 you are ruining the game for real people. It may not feel that way as they aren't sat next to you in your living room, but you are.

A 3-4 month ban on the run up to Christmas - just in time to prevent them from playing Modern Warfare 2 online seems more than fair to me...give me time to get some practice in Winky Winky

To be honest, CoD4 with the UFO mod renewed the experience... besides, there are so many players with the mod that I have to use claymores wherever I am. Even behind me on rooftops and in hidden rooms. People think its easy to survive and get kills at the same time, when it isnt if there are other modders on the opposite team.

@tenerifekid

Poor spelling and grammar aside - you clearly know nothing of the law.

PSN is the Intellectual Property (IP) of Sony - there are terms and conditions which you electronically sign when you create an account. Modifying the content or affecting the manner in which copyrighted content is used within PSN is in breach of these terms and conditions.

Oh and owning a game in terms of buying a disc and content does NOT give you carte blanche to make any changes you please. Try (legally) downloading an MP3, adding a new backing track and then re-releasing it on a public domain and you'll see what I mean....you'll end up in court...

It's the same principle here. By using hacked software on a public domain you are in violation for two counts - techncially you could be sued by both Sony and Activision - although in reality you would just get banned.

Oh and they could ban by IP/MAC Address if they had a mind, which would render your PS3 useless online unless you changed ISP. Again, unlikely - but you should bear this in mind...

@N4lyfe

If you are bored with CoD4 as you seem to be saying - rather than modding the game (and ruining it for everyone else) in order to "renew the experience" why not trade it in for a new game that presents more of a challenge?

@ DeathPixie
I have no intention to flame I just have some serious questions
1) What are my chances that my IP would get banned?
2) would Sony really want to lose tens of thousands of consumers? and hurt both the sales of them and the game developers. Thats money out of their pockets IMO
3) Given the amount of UFO modders, wouldn't a patch be enough?... only around 10% of the people using the mods know what they were doing when they hacked their Game Save, the other 90% depended on tutorials. So, with that said this mod was simply too easy to do to punish every single person
