I agree with your first point, but the only thing that I see that Sony really messed up with in the past year was removing OtherOS. Also, I'm more looking at launch features, not updates.
As for USB headsets, this was included in an update on June 6th, meaning it didn't have this feature at launch. The reason I'm looking at launch is because I'm looking back at the time that the PS3 actually should have had a chance to beat the 360, back when it should have become more popular, but didn't due to Microsoft's business skills. I'm not gonna lie, I don't see any way that the PS3 could possibly win over the market at this point, Microsoft is just too far ahead now.
As for swapping HDDs, I mean ANY HDD. Not one that's in the specific 360 housing and you have to shell out $100 for. You can buy a 320gb 2.5 inch HDD for $50 on Newegg. All you need to install it is a philips head screwdriver - remove the door, pull out old HDD, push in new one.
If you wanted to get a larger capacity for the 360, you'd either have to buy a 120gb for around $100, or open your housing to swap the HDD, meaning you'd need a Torx T8 screwdriver, and then you'd have to format the HDD on your computer with a special DOS program to even get the 360 to use it.
Totally agree regarding the PS3's launch, the only reason I chose that over the XBOX at the time was that I was young, stupid and didn't really play online much haha, otherwise the XBOX would have been the obvious choice.
Interestingly enough one of the original PS3 devs said that they made a huge mistake making the system so hard to develop on, meaning that multi-platform titles would inevitably always be developed on the XBOX first then be ported over. This is also why only the PS3-exclusives are capable of showing it's potential.
I think both MS & Sony have learnt from their mistakes though, so the next console war will ultimately be lost from the start IMO depending on which of them decides to stick w/ motion peripherals. Because whether they like/realise it or not, hardcore gamers like myself aren't going to be putting down the standard gaming controller anytime soon.
P.S. On that last point, have you seen OnLive's controller? Perfection.
