(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Yesterday when I was coming home from NYC, I stopped at a rest stop and there was a man there dressed in raggy clothes and he was pretty old. He was standing in front of the rest stop opening the door for people and holding out a cup for money. As I was sitting in the car I watched COUNTLESS people walk by with showing no emotion or even saying thank you for opening the fuсking door door. I know he is probably the way he is because of drug problems, alcohol addiction, ect. But I mean does it really take that much effort to look at him and say thank you?!

I walked up to the guy twice in the time that we were there and gave him money and smiled at him, the first time he glanced at me and said thank you but the second time I did it he looked right up at me and said "God bless you son, people like you keep me alive." That really hit me

Sorry if this is a little bit tl;dr, but I just don't get why people would pass him by, at least smile at the guy or give a dollar, SOMETHING. Would you guys pass him by or would you give him money? Why or why not? I just don't get why you wouldn't.

People make mistakes in their lives, it's not other peoples duty to help fix those mistakes, but it is almost effortless to acknowledge the hardship that is going on in a person's life. I'm not saying you have to give this guy a house and a job but a smile and a thank you go a long way.

Most hobo's are hobo's for a reason. Drinking problem, drugs, ect. Most adults know this.

Worth the Weight
He would have gotten whatever change, and a five.

Sometimes I donate, sometimes I don't. But whenever I see someone who is doing a good deed for other people who have money, I wouldn't hesitate.

I can see that there aren't to many people who feel the same way, as it seems it is easier to let the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. Now, you may say that he ended up being a hobo for a reason, however, don't you think you should help him? I mean, everyone deserves a second chance. Think of it, how many times have you been given a second chance at something, of course you don't THINK about these second chances, but all these people need is one good person to help them, and show them that there is a life outside drugs and alcohol.

On Top of the Game
I'd never even seen a homeless person before I went to Washington D.C. in 7th grade (almost 6 years ago). We came back from an Orioles game on the first night on a bus, and where we got off there was hundreds of homeless people lined up sleeping on benches or just on the sidewalks. Then every day we spent there, we saw several homeless people panhandling outside just about every building. I gave change to some, but seeing that kind of thing is just sad.
