Post: Lowering the Legal Drinking Age

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was just wondering what all of your thoughts on lowering the Legal drinking are. I personally think the drinking age in the U.S. should be lowered from 21 to 18. If a man can get married, vote for the president of his country, and join the military at 18, why can't he choose to have a drink or not? I would like to hear all of your thoughts on this

It's not about the age it's about the maturity of the individual and the drink awareness, it is common in France for children as young as 5 to enjoy low strength wine with a meal.

Over in England the age is 18 and tbh the majority of people can not handle their drink (I am well aware our beer is stronger than in the USA), most kids think it's all about getting pissed and havin a chavvy fight at the end of the night.

Yeah I just hate it how immature 18 year olds are ruining it for their peers by being stupid with it. That's probably the number 1 reason why the government won't change it, is because of stupid 18 year olds getting shitfaced and doing stupid stuff like driving afterwards. Maybe they should have alcohol education classes in school to teach kids about it before they turn 18? That might alleviate some of the problems

If anything it should be put up a few years.
This generation doesnt understand rationing, and results in sooooooooo much problems involving alcohol.

Yes. In England you can drink and go to clubs/bars when you are 18 but when I come to the states on vacation I get turned away.

Id say the it should be lowered. but until there is a huge spike in underage consumption charges filling up jail space, they wont budge it in america

Yeah so don't you think we should teach them how to ration? In schools up until 6th grade they tell you to not drink (completely abstain from it) and they make it seem like it is evil. This just adds to kids' curiosity about alcohol, leading to experimentation later in life (around 16) and binge drinking. But if they had a class telling them that alcohol isn't bad for you, but it can be if it is abused, kids would probably think about alcohol differently and behave differently with it (rather than binge drinking once a month and almost killing themselves).

I really think 21 is too high in America. Over here in Ireland it's 18 but young people go out and drink regardless. It would e an understatement if I said we had a problem with drink. I worked in my uncles pub for a week and I would see the same people drinking every single night, it was sad really.

It's acceptable for young people to be drinking too, it's not like we have to go somewhere private to do it. I have often had quite a few drinks while at a 21st or a wedding, people don't seem to care really. It's also very easily acquired, fake ids, taking it from your parents or getting older friends to buy you some. The government should crack down on that shit to be honest.

As I've said before, drinking age of 18 isn't the problem, it's the people that are drinking. If we were to educate people about alcohol throughout their lives before they reach 18 and drink, we wouldn't have any problems with it. And quite frankly, I think we would have less problems than we do now with a drinking age of 21.

The problem is, they do educate people, but its apathy instead of non-knowledge of the problem.
