Post: Lowering the Legal Drinking Age

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was just wondering what all of your thoughts on lowering the Legal drinking are. I personally think the drinking age in the U.S. should be lowered from 21 to 18. If a man can get married, vote for the president of his country, and join the military at 18, why can't he choose to have a drink or not? I would like to hear all of your thoughts on this

Do a barrel roll!
i think they should lower it to 18... why, cuz at 18 you can legally smoke cigarettes, join the military, go into clubs, legally purchase an AK-47 or an FN FAL, just about any long rifle... but you have to be 21 to own a handgun and to be able to drink... thats bullshit if you ask me.

The problem is, they do educate people, but its apathy instead of non-knowledge of the problem.

They only educate people to abstain. They tell them "alcohol is evil, don't ever drink it at all" and propaganda like that. It's not evil, and in fact, alcohol has a lot of good things it does for your body. They should educate kids on the real facts about alcohol, not just shoving "NO" down their throats.

It's not about the age it's about the maturity of the individual and the drink awareness, it is common in France for children as young as 5 to enjoy low strength wine with a meal.

Over in England the age is 18 and tbh the majority of people can not handle their drink (I am well aware our beer is stronger than in the USA), most kids think it's all about getting pissed and havin a chavvy fight at the end of the night.

^^ This.

The maturity of the individual(physically and mentally) is 10x more important than some number representing how many years you've lived on this planet. That goes for sex-related offences, drinking, smoking(and other legal drugs etc), driving and every other law that's got a legal age limit. This included.

Why not people are drinking anyways? My cousins live in England and they have been drinking since they were 15. Why have that law in the US. Drinking doesn't hurt unless you're under 14, since your liver isnt fully developed.

I think 18 is better then 21. By 21, people are already drinking regardless

If kids were educated about alcohol throughout grade school(actually EDUCATED, not just told to abstain), then they would be more mature with it by the time they were 18 and they would drink alcohol more responsibly. As for the people who aren't mature enough, they will still be that immature when they are 21, and still make the same bad decisions regardless of whether it's legal or not. Nothing changes from 18 to 21.
