Post: Lowering the Legal Drinking Age

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was just wondering what all of your thoughts on lowering the Legal drinking are. I personally think the drinking age in the U.S. should be lowered from 21 to 18. If a man can get married, vote for the president of his country, and join the military at 18, why can't he choose to have a drink or not? I would like to hear all of your thoughts on this

In my man cave
18 in the UK although that doesn't matter because people usually start drinking at a young age like 12

But to be honest I think I enjoyed drink more when it wasn't legal although when you want to buy drink it's a different story.

They're actually pretty strict about it where I am. They card nearly everyone and they check for fake ID's and everything

And obviously if it was lowered to 18, all the 18 year olds would jump right on that and go out and buy a ton of booze. But if they put a limit on how much an 18 year old could buy at once, or tax it a lot like you said, then it might lower the chance of a spike in drunk driving and other alcohol related deaths. Then, after all the excitement dies down from the change, they will see a big change in how many 18 year olds don't die at college parties or at their own homes in their basements from alcohol poisoning. Instead, they will all be at the bars, and under supervision.

And at these bars, they could limit 18 year olds to a certain amount of beers to prevent drunk driving. Which will solve most of the drunk driving problem for this change. The only possibility would be for 18 year olds to buy a ton of alcohol and drink at their friends' houses and drive home. But 18 year olds already do that even though it's illegal.

I understand.. Thanks for opening my eyes Smile

Anytime man. I wish we could open more people's eyes to this.

For any of you that support lowering the drinking age and want to become a volunteer or donate, go to chooseresponsibility.org.

I just signed up for the site myself so I can't tell you much about it. Just go there and read about it and stuff. But basically they're one of the biggest anti-21 organizations. I'm not meaning to advertise or anything, I'm just informing people in case they want to get involved.

And you assumed that I was young and giving in to peer pressure to drink just to be cool. And now I see where you're coming from though, and I apologize for calling you ignorant. But in reality, the drinking age being 21 isn't stopped anyone under 21 from drinking, it's just forcing them to drink behind closed doors and in the dark. If the drinking age was 18, I think a lot of people would go out and drink at bars where it is much more regulated and supervised.

Yeah fair enough, I made a bit of a leap of an assumption there. But still, where are you from? Here in the UK so many people binge drink, it's a serious problem. Wish alcohol was banned for those that didn't know how to moderate their intake themselves... (I could go on and on, but alcohol is such a burden on society when idiots drink it, i.e. not people like you who drink in moderation, but you are rare unfortunately lol)

I'm from New Jersey over here in the U.S. And trust me, binge drinking is as much a problem here as it is over there lol. So many college students (under age) die of alcohol poisoning all the time. But drinking and going to college goes hand in hand. People in college will drink whether it's legal or not. But if they were legally allowed to, then their friends probably would have called 911 instead of just leaving them to die, in fear of being prosecuted themselves. I think changing the drinking age to 18, having better alcohol education, and having stricter drinking and driving laws would solve a lot of the problems we have here.

Sorry to bump/double post, but I just realized I never made a poll for this thread. If any mod reads this, could you please make an appropriate poll for this thread?

Thanks Smile

Not all alcohol is healthy for ya mate.
Any alcohol with a high alcohol percentage can and will do more damage than good.
Beer and wine,on the other hand is better for you,in moderation that is.
Look,no matter what law is passed in regards to legal drinking age and what not, will not curb the issues related/associated to alcohol.
Drinking of alcohol cannot be regulated nor supervised as even the bars can't tell their patrons how many beers they can drink.
It's a habit/addiction,just like smoking or drugs and is just as dangerous to the person involved, others, the environment etc.
With the exception that it's readily and legally available at your nearest liquor outlet.
