Just read this thread from start to finish, it seems that almost everyone agrees that this was a bad idea. However, somebody made a very good point a few pages back. This is a business. Here's a business 101 lesson for some of you, if you're not making money then you're doing something wrong. If the donations of premium members aren't covering the cost of the servers and the other overheads that there are bound to be, then something has to change or NGU will be no more.
I'm not sure how this whole Elite thing came about as I've been away for a few weeks, but from what I've seen and what looks like happened, it was just sprung on everyone. Massive changes to the site should be discussed well in advanced with members. Sure it your site and you can do what you like, but if you really want this place too be the best it possibly can then the average member needs a say. It was, and probably still is the premium members that make up a vast majority of your active users, if there is a demographic to keep happy, it's them.
Unfortunately, this place has change a lot since I first came here. We're no longer a small community who all know each other. This is the main reason I won't be paying for Elite. The site doesn't have the same appeal for me that it once did. These days it seems as though everything is a popularity contest. People used to post their thoughts and opinions no matter how controversial, now as soon as one person gets butthurt everyone seems to jump on the bandwagon. I won't even go into what I think about the mods/admins. I realise that the site will never go back to what it once was and I truly wish you all the best for the future. I'll be around now and then, but not nearly as often as I was a few months back. This is no longer the place I once loved.

In reply to Purple Passion: I agree, they could have just changed premium up, to elite... but you donated for premium because you wanted to help the site out, elite is a whole different situation. Elite is YOUR choice on donating for it, I bought a year of it.. I've donated over $50 to NGU, supporting because I love it! Premium was a small donation of $10 which was your choice, and ELITE is only $2 bucks for you, is that SO bad? Before Elite, anytime I checked, they were reaching $1000 USD a month, probably more... that was before Elite, now since Elite, people like you have been complaining about having to donating again, etc when people were STILL donating before elite was even announced. If you don't want to donate for elite, then hey, don't. Don't complain though, and people who aren't elite will still post when they have good things to post about, like I was probably going to post some things soon in here... and Elite is worth the $2 bucks you have to pay for it... its a great feature.

Nothing major has changed, and the staff promoted, deserve it.. not because of whether they are on all the time, or because of popularity, because I can guarantee there is a member on here that is 'admin-worth' that is probably below 2000 rep... (that part was in reply to Purple about the 'staff' part of his thread.)

Whelp, I read all the replies, and I thought I'd toss my hat in the ring..
I've been here longer than most of the active users anymore, and I see one thing that has not changed. The amount of negativity towards any sort of new ideas. No matter what happens, you cannot please everyone, and that's why Outsider says Elite was created with the website in mind, not all the members. Elite was made to make the website grow, not give every single member a handjob for money. Elite was made, yes for money, and it will be paying for server fees, as well as new things for us in the future. You cannot say that you hate Elite if you haven't even seen a single thread posted. I myself am no longer a hardcore gamer and I tend to be a very negative member (ask Outsider, he's almost guested me for it), but I do find the content in Elite to be useful and quite worth the monthly fee I pay. I feel as if it will grow larger than the Premium section was. I like it, it has decent features, though I think the colors need a revamp :p
I guess I'm saying, don't knock it 'till you try it. Give it a shot, it's less than Premium was, and it has more than Premium already. If you don't like it, you go back to your 'onator' status after your Elite membership expires.
Also, you can't start a discussion about one topic, and shift it to another. This is for discussion of opinions on Elite/Premium. Not the reputation system, not the current site. Keep on topic, or don't talk at all.

Alright I can see where your coming from here. I've also been here for about 2 years, I've been though thick and thin with NGU, the day where everyone was bitching about Outsider being un-active and a bunch of staff and normal members left. I stayed and to be honest I never complain about something on this site unless though my eyes it is needed. I've never complained about the Vbux system or Rep or whatever but this is different. One thing I did say is Elite has REPLACED premium now. Look they took premium away from the homepage, they stuck the section right at the bottom. How are people going to donate for premium when they can't? No more advertisement of premium which means no more new members means no more new threads. Elite isn't a new addition to the site, they just replaced Premium and with Premium already dying this is just going to put it in it's grave. You could keep donating to NGU and still be premium no matter what. YOU could donate $50 if you wanted to instead of $10. My point being NGU and Outsider is getting enough money to run the site, more then enough to be honest but, where does the other money go? Maybe you could save up the rest of the other money in case you have a bad month. No one is hating here, we are just both expressing our opinions. Outsider is expressing his in which ever way he chooses. I don't HATE NGU and I don't HATE Outsider either I'm expressing my view on Elite. And to be honest I do feel it's not just my one man army I do indeed have a lot of people backing me when I say we don't want Elite.

I agree Ownage but I think that's down to frustration with the Gaming/hacking scene in general. There's fuck all content to be had and that's not down to the staff or down to the members it's to do with the whole scene but we seem to just be passing the blame back and forward. You know what they say, an idle mind is the devil's workshop.

I'm pretty sure premium's section was already down there at the bottom lol, and I see exactly what your talking about. Don't forget about the server costs man, NGU is running over 800,000 members now, you know how big that is? I bet Outsider does have money saved somewhere... there could be a bad month and NGU only gets $500 when the server costs are $950, so if I was running NGU, I would have money saved up, yes. I agree with that. I see where your coming from, I don't bitch about anything, I stay chill and be cool with everyone.
