(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Will the Xbox 360 be the last console to hold the Xbox Brand? - You must login or register to view this content.

The Xbox brand, originally becoming popular during the time of the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube, has become the icon for Microsoft's gaming sector.

Apparently, Microsoft was completely serious when they said they were planning on launching NATAL like an entirely new console. According to various bits of evidence and other sources, Microsoft indeed plans to finish off the Xbox brand after the Xbox 360. The thing is, as rumored in the past, they don't plan on ending their gaming sector altogether.

The information is coming from a FOX Interactive Media employee, who says the well known IGN is in the process of "phasing out the Xbox name". Some of you may remember when TeamXbox, a popular gaming site and forum, lost its co-founder and editor-in-chief. The two individuals were fired by IGN. From that time to present day, there has been a significant decrease in the amount of information provided by Team Xbox.

Around the same time the co-founder and editor-in-chief were fired, FOX Interactive Media rebranded the Team Xbox website with the "Powered by IGN" slogan. This is a sign that the Xbox name is losing value, and is in the process of being replaced. Or so is rumored.

The most substantial evidence, however, is the beginning of Microsoft's strive to replace the Xbox logo and name with other things. While information concerning those things has not been released, it is said that some products are now missing the Xbox logo and name. It is also said that Microsoft has been sending out new box art and logos, clearly not referring to Xbox or the name in any way.

It is without a doubt that more information will come concerning this in the future, and I'll make sure to keep an eye on things when that time comes.

Schaffin's Bit

This sort of news, despite my love for the Xbox console, always excites me. The rumor that the Xbox name could be going away altogether is big news indeed. Why would Microsoft be willing to drop a name and logo known so well worldwide, if they weren't planning on making something big to replace it?

Microsoft, whether you like them or not, is a great corporation, which has always taken into account what the best business moves would be. I can't see them dropping something of such value without having a solid plan to replace it with.

What are your thoughts on this? I know that there have rumors like this in the past, but this news stands out to me because of the number of things that seem to go along with this information.

Did you 3 even read the entire post? Because you may want to read it more closely if you did, since obviously you misinterpreted it.

360 is still way ahead of PS3 in terms of sales bro. Smile

Anyway, Natal looks like gimmicky garbage. If the entire console is motion... then I'm buying a PS4. Screw it.

NATAL will not be all the 360 is when it comes out. It is a new feature, which adds a new style of gameplay to the console in a never-seen-before perspective. If you decide not to get it, the 360 will still be your favorite 360, and will still be updated until a new console.

Well since their phasing out the Xbox name potentially, I'm saying, what if Natal is the new console by itself after the 360 is discontinued and everything is gimmicky motion garbage? If that happens, then I'm going back to Sony.

Yeah I'm not sure why everyone wants all this motion tracking or 3D sh*t but I think it's pretty retarded. I like playstations but xbox wasn't that bad. Nintendo needs to just discontinue the Wii so bad.

Are you sure about that? Anyway if it is it's because poor kids can't buy ps3 so they just get a 360 and then also Pro's have 360's too and Hackers get it b/c it's easy to hack and finally some people just prefer it over the playstation like yourself.

Please don't start a fanboy argument. Just because the thread is about the future of the xbox 360. Let me remind you that people buy console on their own preferences. Its nothing to do with how much money you have or anything to do with that. Maybe sales for the Xbox 360 are above the PS3's because people prefer the games the xbox has or the superior online service. Maybe its even down to the comfortable controller layout. Who knows and who cares.

im sure Xbox isnt going anywhere it still has the best online experience and the best games and the controllers are not only more comfortable but dont break in a week plus making a new name for an old system would be a huge waste of money and really there would be no point to it unless they are phaseing it out to come out with a new system in 2011 or early 2012 that would be the only logical explanation of them phasing out the Xbox name
