The Xbox brand, originally becoming popular during the time of the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube, has become the icon for Microsoft's gaming sector.

Apparently, Microsoft was completely serious when they said they were planning on launching NATAL like an entirely new console. According to various bits of evidence and other sources, Microsoft indeed plans to finish off the Xbox brand after the Xbox 360. The thing is, as rumored in the past, they don't plan on ending their gaming sector altogether.

The information is coming from a FOX Interactive Media employee, who says the well known IGN is in the process of "phasing out the Xbox name". Some of you may remember when TeamXbox, a popular gaming site and forum, lost its co-founder and editor-in-chief. The two individuals were fired by IGN. From that time to present day, there has been a significant decrease in the amount of information provided by Team Xbox.

Around the same time the co-founder and editor-in-chief were fired, FOX Interactive Media rebranded the Team Xbox website with the "Powered by IGN" slogan. This is a sign that the Xbox name is losing value, and is in the process of being replaced. Or so is rumored.

The most substantial evidence, however, is the beginning of Microsoft's strive to replace the Xbox logo and name with other things. While information concerning those things has not been released, it is said that some products are now missing the Xbox logo and name. It is also said that Microsoft has been sending out new box art and logos, clearly not referring to Xbox or the name in any way.

It is without a doubt that more information will come concerning this in the future, and I'll make sure to keep an eye on things when that time comes.

Schaffin's Bit

This sort of news, despite my love for the Xbox console, always excites me. The rumor that the Xbox name could be going away altogether is big news indeed. Why would Microsoft be willing to drop a name and logo known so well worldwide, if they weren't planning on making something big to replace it?

Microsoft, whether you like them or not, is a great corporation, which has always taken into account what the best business moves would be. I can't see them dropping something of such value without having a solid plan to replace it with.

What are your thoughts on this? I know that there have rumors like this in the past, but this news stands out to me because of the number of things that seem to go along with this information.

Only people who fall for fads like it, that's what the big companies like Sony aren't seeing.

the bad servers ( some times )

Bad servers are almost always the developers' fault, Sony don't handle the servers.
For example when MW2 was released, Activision were handling the servers, they cocked up; M$ fanboys blamed Sony(despite the XBOX version having trouble too, funny how they forgot that bit).

Pretty cool I never liked the name Xbox any way but to be honest Playstation sounds just as gay. Anyway this is definitely some interesting news and I can't wait to see where they go from here most people in this thread seem to think Microsoft's giving up but I don't think so.

To be honest it's probably a good idea to ditch the Xbox it's got an unbelievably bad reputation because of its overheating problems, I'm guessing there just going to bring out another console and build the reputation back up from the bottom and do it right this time. In the mean time we have Natal to look forward too but it's hardly a practical gaming device seeing as you need at least a meter cubed of space to use it decently which is okay if you're going to have it in the living room but most people have consoles in the bedrooms.

Also I hate all this motion sensor BS I mean at the moment I find it too much effort waving a PS3 controller around to do very trivial things in games such as light matches or kick a door down but having to play a whole game on your feet doing the actions, I do gaming because it's relaxing if I wanted to get a work out and look like a twat at the same time I'd get a Wii fit.

You sir are 100% correct. I mean sony is still going through with the whole 3D even though there is a HUGE drop in framerate. :l
