The Xbox brand, originally becoming popular during the time of the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube, has become the icon for Microsoft's gaming sector.

Apparently, Microsoft was completely serious when they said they were planning on launching NATAL like an entirely new console. According to various bits of evidence and other sources, Microsoft indeed plans to finish off the Xbox brand after the Xbox 360. The thing is, as rumored in the past, they don't plan on ending their gaming sector altogether.

The information is coming from a FOX Interactive Media employee, who says the well known IGN is in the process of "phasing out the Xbox name". Some of you may remember when TeamXbox, a popular gaming site and forum, lost its co-founder and editor-in-chief. The two individuals were fired by IGN. From that time to present day, there has been a significant decrease in the amount of information provided by Team Xbox.

Around the same time the co-founder and editor-in-chief were fired, FOX Interactive Media rebranded the Team Xbox website with the "Powered by IGN" slogan. This is a sign that the Xbox name is losing value, and is in the process of being replaced. Or so is rumored.

The most substantial evidence, however, is the beginning of Microsoft's strive to replace the Xbox logo and name with other things. While information concerning those things has not been released, it is said that some products are now missing the Xbox logo and name. It is also said that Microsoft has been sending out new box art and logos, clearly not referring to Xbox or the name in any way.

It is without a doubt that more information will come concerning this in the future, and I'll make sure to keep an eye on things when that time comes.

Schaffin's Bit

This sort of news, despite my love for the Xbox console, always excites me. The rumor that the Xbox name could be going away altogether is big news indeed. Why would Microsoft be willing to drop a name and logo known so well worldwide, if they weren't planning on making something big to replace it?

Microsoft, whether you like them or not, is a great corporation, which has always taken into account what the best business moves would be. I can't see them dropping something of such value without having a solid plan to replace it with.

What are your thoughts on this? I know that there have rumors like this in the past, but this news stands out to me because of the number of things that seem to go along with this information.

I think the whole 3D and Motion shit is going to be the downfall of sony and microsoft. Honestly sony is only pushing the 3D thing because they are selling 3D tv's now and from what I heard microsofts motion thingy wasnt that good. I own a ps3 and a wii and If I want to play motion games im going to use my wii, not pay more money for a wii rip off contoller with a ball at the end and new games (that will probably be $60). If xbox ditches the whole xbox name I think the NATAL or whatever will be there last console and once sony upgrades to the ps4 microsoft will be out of the game. I think in the long run if microsoft flops in gaming it will be good in general. that will lead to nintendo and sony being the only ones left, which leads to a couple of good things. 1-no more fanboys 2-no more bad games because they had to fit them onto 2 seperate consoles. I only see one problem which is game prics could sky rocket to $70-$80! but who knows what will happen. from what i remember sony said that they wouldnt release a ps4 till atleast 10ish years after the ps3 so we still have 7 years to go so who knows what will happen.

Yo, and plus the X box came out before the ps3, so that's basically why they have more sells.. its a pretty silly competition, I think.

GO PS4! :mudkip:

Maybe they won't make a better console, just games, I mean the gaming industry already has HD graphics as well as 3D. What else is their to advance? The next thing is probably virtual gaming
