Ive seen people talking about this in the past its known as the Red Screen of Death (RSOD)

This is the oldest topic ive found referring to the screen (You must login or register to view this content.)

It might be fixable yourself if you know what your doing with the insides of the ps3 like flashing the nand, if not then your kinda SOL

Sorry for the bad news but maybe you can look into it more than I did, just google 'ps3 red screen of death' you should be able to sift through and maybe find something.

Hope it helps, goodluck

well yea it wasnt the cfw i know that it had nothing to do with it :P like i said i have alot of friends that have updated from cfw and havent got this so im 100% sure it wasnt that

Alright let me clear it up can you still use your ps3? Is the red screen only coming up when you try to update? If so then your still kinda in the clear..if its popping up as soon as you turn on the console then your bricked..

Id recommend going into the recovery menu and trying to **** around with that a bit, maybe do a system restore via recovery menu? No idea.

**dont hold me responsible if you end up bricking :P

it doesnt matter if u are on 3.55 ofw or 3.55 cfw it will update fine from both like ive said before i got friends that have updated from cfw with no probs and im sure lots of people on here have to people just post stuff like that so little12 year old kids on here dont have a hernia because they think they will brick like i said many people have updated from 3.55cfw no problems im startin to think that some how somthing screwed up durring the download of the 3.56 i updated via internet on ps3 so if my ps3 is tryin to install corrupt firmware that could be the problem
