Why this site has gone downhill lately
As told by: You must login or register to view this content.

This site had so much potential....notice I said "had".

Shall we begin? Where do we start? Well I will get us started;

I joined this site a few months ago. I was google searching for hacks/cracks for various games and software, etc. I noticed this site was in vBulletin, which appealed to me. In my time in forums I noticed that ones using paid software such as; vBulletin, IPBoard, etc. tend to last longer, and keep their maintenance up to date. Upon joining and making my first few posts I noticed quickly how unprofessional staff are here. I was told that my posts were too short and I was "warned" not to post like that again. This action is common on forums, each forum has it's own set of rules and standards, no biggie right? Wrong. That notification I received was posted on my visitor wall for all guests to see. Anyone who has staffed anywhere knows you never approach someone in public unless there is an immediate threat to the security of the site. The back and forth continued with that staff member for a few posts until we reached an understanding.

I later posted a thread which contained a compilation of the works of some coders here on in the threads. It involved a phisher that I would custom code, the way the code worked though is that you would have to setup a fake gmail account so I could code it to connect to the gmail smtp server. The alternative to that was, I would tell you how to install vb express from microsoft and explain to you how to build the program yourself. This thread was removed because staff accused me of phishing for gmails. Now here is the funny part, first they say I must include a virus scan, now when I finally get them to understand that the program does not exist, it's on my pc, they then accuse it of being a phisher. Well they were right, to some degree, the program does phish for youtube and paypal accounts, as advertised, but they were saying I was phishing for gmails. Now people why would I ask you to setup a fake gmail account and then phish it from you? Why would I offer the code and explain to you how to create the software yourself? Again we are dealing with people moderating sections of the forum that they have no knowledge in.

I had a post removed where I was offering some databases for sale, that was removed because I was and am still under the 100 post count. This is fine with me, and I can respect that.

I later had another post removed involving windows 7 secret modes, I was accused this time of posting a dupe. I then had to explain to the staff the the original poster only included 1 hidden mode for windows 7, where as my thread was complete and contained all 14 (I believe it was 14) modes. That thread was later re-instated. The staff member that handled that was mature and cordial. Although this matter was yet again handled publicly for all to see on my wall and his alike.

There a few premium members that like to jump on threads and accuse the poster of stealing threads from else where, or saying that because the new guy only has 20 posts then his program must contain a virus. Staff needs to investigate these allegations and if they prove to be false, the accuser needs to be labeled appropriately. It's discouraging for a new person that actually knows what he is doing to be accused of making a program containing a virus when they have spent hours or even days creating something unique to share with the community. Not all premium members do this, and some help out more than mods do, but there are a lot that choose to spam threads instead of contributing something constructing to share with everyone else.

I mod and admin 3 other sites. They are successful sites, we have donators, they become vips. If the vips do not follow the rules as outlined, they are canned, and their money is refunded. The reason for this is, we encourage everyone to help out where they can. This is the only way a forum survives. Without new members becoming vips, then the site server fees suffer, as only the chosen few in essence end up running the site over the mods and admins, because staff is more concerned about turning a profit than the community itself.

I have taken the time to make this thread. I know staff will remove it, which again is unprofessional, all criticism should be welcome, and this is posted in the General Discussion section of the forum, so there is no reason this thread should be removed. If the staff do not take the time to start listening to it's members then people are going to start to realize that there is a little site out there called google that can provide them with 100's of other communities that may better suit their needs.

I have been in the torrenting / warez / hacking / coding community for years. I am a member of a well known group of HD-Encoders, and I may be a jerk if provoked, all in all I'm a nice person. I have a lot to contribute to the community, but that's only if staff will let me. A side note, my thread where I gave out free invites to private tracker sites was never messed with by staff...lol.

If the staff / admins here would like some more information about this topic, feel free to contact me, via PM. It's very unprofessional to ask people to carry a conversation, while listening to rap music on mod 'x' profile and I refuse to do it any further.

I don't have to explain the thread mate. If you read it you would have seen the point. You are free to do as you please with the thread now, it's served it's purpose and raised some awareness, I was not ranting or raving. There are 1000's of threads on this site that are just general topics, and people voicing their opinions about things they have experienced in life. I would find it amusing to see you close this thread and leave the others with "no point" open, simply because this one sheds some lights on the wrong doings of some staff and some members of this site. Understand that at this point if you close it, it reinforces everything that I have mentioned, and then I can rightfully open a new one explaining how this one was closed as well. If I don't make a new one, I'm sure one of the members that liked this one will. To delete a thread because you believe it is "ranting" is pretty uncalled for, this thread has live activity and users are participating in it. Your call mate, balls in your court. Prove me right, or prove me wrong.

I don't think the staff suck. The ones that are bad seeds are exactly that, bad seeds. I think there should be a staff meeting soon to discuss "STAFF" rules and etiquette soon, maybe some sensitivity training or something LOL. When a site has 5-8 staff members modding one section of the forum, things are bound to get out of hand. We ran our forum with a staff shout box where we could bullsh*t and a regular shoutbox for members, our mods jobs were to only observe the member shout and not interact in there, if there was an issue than they would edit the shout accordingly and send the member a PM explaining his infraction. When the staff interacts in the shoutbox and essentially takes it over, users have no place to interact with each other. I have joined the shout and either was completely ignored or teamed up on by premiums and staff alike. This is not an anit-NGU thread, it's only a thread for users to voice their opinion so staff can see first hand what users see on a daily basis as we are the ones interacting in the forums daily and going through all this.

I respect your decision to keep the thread alive and that shows me that not everyone on this site is full of it. There just needs to be an element of maturity coming from the people that represent this site. It's a job, with responsibilities, rules, and ethics. Only it appears that some have forgotten this. Hope to see some changes soon.

We all know deep in our hearts that this website is going down hill. That being said, NGU is still better than others I can think of, I just preferred it the way it was back in '09.

TBH I think site activity is going down because of all these other forums that are being made. Or maybe it is because we need something more exciting on the site, idk what thought Not Happy or Sad

Lots of great opinions in this thread. I like it when a nice fire is started.

The sad thing though, is that this thread will get old and die, and nothing suggested or said in it will be implemented. NGU has pretty much gone into total fascism and although social upkeep is being kept, I doubt there is much concern for the community as a whole. I think the concern is for the site now, not the people.

My biggest gripe about this site is the infection it's suffering from the number of ignoramuses that consistently roam it, destroy the credibility of these site and themselves, and are simply narrow-minded. All of these complaints are absolutely legitimate as I have seen. Way to go! I have seen MANY Staff members manipulating their own rules and going too far out of line at times, and I seem to get into consistent debates that lead to an argument because their opinion varies from my own. I never wanted to join this site for debating or arguing, just to contribute to the hacking and gaming scene. But it seems like with more members come in with more negativity in result. This can all be fixed with a re-evaluation.

I do admit I have the tendency to argue in response instead of letting it be. I call myself out on that and I know damn well I can say things that are wrong. I acknowledge it and try to work on it. But I think if rules we're a bit tighter there would be less incidents.

2. To make mods look like they are doing something. You have to remember our moderators were at one point, regular members like me and you. Moderators are demoted regularly for "inactivity" and promoted for working beyond what is expected of them. If issues are resolved over private messaging, administrators will not see the work they do and will never promote them.

That is the just plain stupid, believe it or not administrators knows exactly how active a mod is being without having to see public messages of mods doing their duty. Not to mention we have like 500 ka zillion member's on here which means an admin is prob not going to delete give some guy with 50 post a warning for posting his mom nude on the forum, the admin will however see the infraction handed out to his ass. Oh and by the way, i'm pretty sure admins have the power to read pm's. Mods jobs are to keep this place safe, clean and troll free and not to show others how awesome mods they are, only vein they care for glory, the glory are the ones that humble themselves.......

Out of interest, would you mind naming the mods who you think are arrogant and/or disrespectful? From what I've noticed since I was promoted, none of the mods match that description. That's the honest truth, IMO.

Of course your not going to notice other mods acting like dicks, it's natural for you guys to stick together, hell when back when I was mod and someone told me that crick or oc log were baby kickers i would totally defend them and be like "nah dude, they were just playing soccer with them STFU YOU NEWB" and then proceed to ban their ass cause staff will stick together no matter what. In fact when I was mod outsider told me that I had to take sides with my fellow staff even when i knew he was dead fuking wrong, it's really one of the reason why I was demoted and you know outsider was right. In the end the site looks bad if the staff are fighting with one another.
