(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A console hacker has claimed to have noticed an interested string in a .RCO file (system_plugin.rco). The string allegedly states "msg_error_console_hot_pls_restart".

This is supported by the message that states that 'the system has become hot. Please turn off the system and wait a while before turning it on again'.

The hacker believes that Sony could prevent YLOD by having the function to shut down the console when it gets too hot. Instead they supposedly opted against a more effective mechanism so they were able to profit from broken consoles.

In Flames Much?
/facepalm

Console already does turn off when it gets too hot. Point of the code
Also anybody with half a brain could work out what the does turn off the console :/ at a certain temp.

YLOD also is not just overheating but could be a couple other issues which cause the failure. YLOD just a big red light which goes it broken.

There no way sony could prevent failure unless they changed all the parts each year.
Anybody who thinks that wrong should do your home work on YLOD. Not just one issue.

Another thing is no company wants it products to fail it bad for them. People stop buying stuff. Never get why people say companies want things to fail :S
You should be more focused on pointless upgrades for a new product then failure.

Some people just want to throw stuff out there all companies are evil.....

Not even news in my book

I agree, Why would anyone want their product to fail? Sure, they may make more money but it leads to a bad reputation.

Car companies make their cars last about 5-6 years before they start to have problems so that they can profit... makes sense for Sony to also do it.

Read My Mind
The first time my ancient 40gb yellow lighted I never received the "your ps3 is too hot" message. The only time I ever got that message was when my fan was broken and in that case it overheated in about 20 minutes.

So as far as I understand they're unrelated. I was told by my local electronic repair shop that they fix ylod ps3s by replacing the thermal paste inside of it. So that's leading me to believe that Sony has our best interests in mind.
