(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A console hacker has claimed to have noticed an interested string in a .RCO file (system_plugin.rco). The string allegedly states "msg_error_console_hot_pls_restart".

This is supported by the message that states that 'the system has become hot. Please turn off the system and wait a while before turning it on again'.

The hacker believes that Sony could prevent YLOD by having the function to shut down the console when it gets too hot. Instead they supposedly opted against a more effective mechanism so they were able to profit from broken consoles.

IMBA
Total Imbalance
Its technically the users choice to play on if they know the system is over heating therefore its there fault.

I think that's the warning message you get if you're lucky. Either way, with the technology of today I'm surprised we have to deal with these type of malfunctions.

OMG my friends PS3 broke when it became overheated

The reason it is a message error is possibly because of:

1) It allows people to save data.

2) If it just shutdown/restarted people wouldn't know what the hell happened and just get mad for no reason, attempt to turn it back on immediately and die of a yellow light. It doesn't cause anything instead tries to prevent.

Do a barrel roll!
This makes no sense. Why would sony want consoles to break? All the PS3 phats were sold at a loss.

This seems fishy...
