(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A console hacker has claimed to have noticed an interested string in a .RCO file (system_plugin.rco). The string allegedly states "msg_error_console_hot_pls_restart".

This is supported by the message that states that 'the system has become hot. Please turn off the system and wait a while before turning it on again'.

The hacker believes that Sony could prevent YLOD by having the function to shut down the console when it gets too hot. Instead they supposedly opted against a more effective mechanism so they were able to profit from broken consoles.

In the early stages it used to display the message back when the console first came out. After a few updates it was removed and system would automatically shut down. I used to play for hours on end and get the message then after a few updates it started to shut down automatically.

To and fro the island.
I'd wait for a response from Sony before jumping to conclusions... Perhaps you're right, but I don't think that this is something Sony would do. Business is business, and I realize that, but at the end of the day I think there are those at Sony who actually give a **** about the gameplay experience...

I certainly hope that this isn't true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was legitimate.

Dave, I don't think I'm fully understanding the post, and by the looks of it not many people are.
Your saying that the "mechanism to make more profits" was to have an error suggesting people turn their machine off, instead of doing it for them?

Its called product obsolescence. Its debatable, but many companies that produce long-term products which feature new models every few years implement the product to start to fail around the time a new model comes out. Like someone said a few below your post, this is pretty evident in cars, iPods, laptops etc.
Ever noticed your iPod starting to screw up around the time the next model comes out? Obviously its hard to prove this, but like I said its debatable.

You guys are blowing this out of proportion, Why would you want your franchise to fail? They did not purposely blow up ps3s, And where did you get this info from...I have my doubts about this source.
