Sony is doing everything in their power to prevent piracy on the PS3. They already said that they would "fix the issues through network updates". They've even sued Geohot and Fail0verflow.

But now they may be aiming the ban hammer at psn users. After all, Sony has way more access to our PS3's then you think. Every time you turn on your PS3 a log gets sent to Sony. This can potentially show them any homebrew apps your running.

But just banning consoles isn't all, we've all known that for awhile. Now, Sony can completely disable your console if they wanted to so, whether you’re online or offline, you PS3 will remain completely nonfunctional.

If Sony can't fix this CFW expect a wave of bans to come. I'm not trying to scare you, just warning you.

I had a friend to the 15th prestige hack on a brand new account which I then went online with for one game.
I'm not even using the hacked PSN account cos it got banned from BO, but why the f^ck has my console been banned?
I don't have the custom firmware, and I never have!!

The entire Sony having access to your console does not surprise me if you are logged into PSN of course. Whether or not that they can disable your PS3 without actual reason other than running un-assigned code on it I highly doubt this. I am doubting this at least until the case of Sony vs. GeoHot goes through and there is a ruling.

Let's just say Sony wins, that is the point and time where I would be extremely cautions of Sony doing something against this exploit. However, if GeoHot wins then really Sony cannot do anything, because it is not against the law what you are doing. Unless you are running the code to run pirated games or something along the lines of that.

Haxor!
If geohot wins the case, there is nothing sony can legally do to prevent you from using your ps3.

Consumers not costumers
this is what I think of when you put costumers

Sony won't disable consoles. Even though there are many people can use homebrew for downloaded games....there are others can use it for emulators and other programs that don't pirate
