In recent weeks LG have claimed the PlayStation 3 infringes on a number of its patents relating to Blu-ray technology, and they have managed to secure a preliminary injunction against Sony for customs to seize and confiscate all PS3s coming into Europe for up to ten days, granted by the civil court of justice in the Hague. The consoles are reportedly being temporarily held in Dutch warehouses until the case moves forward.

The Guardian believes retailers will have enough PS3s to last two to three weeks. Sony have the right to file an appeal to the patents office - but if the court eventually rule in favour of LG, Sony will be forced to compensate the company for every PlayStation 3 which has been sold around the world to this day.

I wonder how much money that actually is? Even though Sony has been pissing quite the amount of people off lately, I don't see how LG can do it. I mean out of everyone who has a HDTV, or Blu Ray player, who has LG? Barely anyone i know. There nobodies to this game basically, except for a nice washer and dryer set.
Make jailbreaking, and custom firmwares legal then we might support the company in which we once thought was god of powerhouse gaming, and that they loved us dearly.

I've heard they sold 'more than' three million consoles in the UK, so probably around ten million in the US, and another three million (probably much more but I'm going for a minimum) world wide..

That's 16 million worldwide (i'm just giving a rough approximation here :p). 16,000,000 x 500 = $8,000,000,000.

I'm sure it's nowhere near there, but I think that pretty much confirms it'd be in the billions.

Dam sony barely makes profit from each console sold this would be a huge blow but they sell enough of there other products to cover the losses

If this sparks the World War 3 aka " Modern Warfare 3 CANCELLED ", Blame it on the company who made refrigerators out of solid petroleum, LG.

I hope our fellow Europeans kick LG's Bluray player's patents straight to hell.
I'm not also in favor with SCEA due to the banning of Consoles in CoSad Awesome BlOps.
I'm like Switzerland- Neutral!
