In recent weeks LG have claimed the PlayStation 3 infringes on a number of its patents relating to Blu-ray technology, and they have managed to secure a preliminary injunction against Sony for customs to seize and confiscate all PS3s coming into Europe for up to ten days, granted by the civil court of justice in the Hague. The consoles are reportedly being temporarily held in Dutch warehouses until the case moves forward.

The Guardian believes retailers will have enough PS3s to last two to three weeks. Sony have the right to file an appeal to the patents office - but if the court eventually rule in favour of LG, Sony will be forced to compensate the company for every PlayStation 3 which has been sold around the world to this day.

I've heard they sold 'more than' three million consoles in the UK, so probably around ten million in the US, and another three million (probably much more but I'm going for a minimum) world wide..

That's 16 million worldwide (i'm just giving a rough approximation here :p). 16,000,000 x 500 = $8,000,000,000.

I'm sure it's nowhere near there, but I think that pretty much confirms it'd be in the billions.

Sorry but itll never happen!!!

im not sure if LG contributed into creating the technology or not, but i was refering more to the ps3 helping it take off as it did, eventually killing off hd dvd. sony took most of the risk on the tech, thus making it successful enough for LG to even make and sell blu ray players.

LG are just being ****s. If sonys lawsuite was legitimate, then ok i mean they both have a stake in the mobile phone business. But what stake does lg have in the console business? why not go after other sony blu ray products? because they know the ps3 is where they can hurt sony the most, making lg even bigger ****s.
