Actually even if sony do ban you or brick your PS3, We can sue them for so much more.
Because Jailbreaking Might be breaking a term and condition of sony from the moment you purchase the PS3 its legally ours.
Sony briking or banning is actually a violation. Vandalism infact, therfore if Anyone does get banned or bricked. Sue sony.
Guarentee breaking the law is worse than a term and condition.

Just to point out u can reset ur ip by turning ur router off leaving for a couple of min then turning it back on.

I thought the law on this matter was that you owned the hardware, but were licensing the software (firmware) and so they can't damage your hardware as that'd fall under the Vandalism you mentioned, but they can stop licensing your software.
Whether this results in no more updates to your console or removal/crippling of the software I don't know as I have no idea what Sony can/can't do to the console remotely (although all their actions to date would suggest that they are anal enough to do the latter if they can)

That would be a federal violation in the US. And Malicous damage of private property and would open Sony up for a Class action Lawsuit in the range of Billions of Dollars.

I understand what your saying but by installing the custom firmware wouldnt that mean that were no longer running on sony ?
& Running on geohot's custom firmware ?
