He said "no you shouldn't" the first time which means he isn't completely sure.
Not trying to say it's confirm, but customer service is somewhat a bad way to get information on a new matter. In fact where i use to work they would usually be the end of the line (well there another) that recieve this type of information.
what i am saying is Sony hasn't authorize the ban, in fact we have no idea what these guys do exactly at customer service other then support users who are having issues. They aren't in charge of the departments that decide what can be ban, they just do the banning. So it prob. means that Sony hasn't authorize it yet.

but you mainl asked about backing up your own games, which no where is illegal. You should have asked if you would get ban for running unarthorize firmware not developed by Sony. Yeah it may be why ask this, it's because Customer service is really dumb and you need to make your self as clear as possible to them.

This still doesn't give you a 100% guarantee of not being banned. He didn't sound like he was really listening to you. Maybe he's just an idiot or a guy of close being fired and play tricks on the customers.
And now I've read alot of posts like "Yay, finally somebody confirmed this" remeber you MUST own the game you're backing up to keep it legal. Maybe they want some kind of proof if they ever ban you.
I mean I don't give a shit about owning the games or not either, but well.

So I just called the customer service line for Playstation 3 and after asking the question about being banned for CFW I was placed on hold to talk with someone who knows more about it, an individual named Sean. So Sean stated that "as of now" they are not banning for CFW but he could not give me a for sure statment on what would happen in the future. He also stated that "if" a new update comes out my system running CFW may no longer be compatible with PSN.

I got pretty much the same feedback from a guy by the name of Jim. He said pretty much the exact same thing you said. Mine is on CFW, but I don't give. I hope that they don't come out with an update that will make CFW not compatible with PSN. If Geohot wins the case, then we will get another CFW that IS compatible with the 'new PSN' perhaps. That is IF he wins and he wants to keep hacking. Anyways, best of luck to everybody with CFW. We'll just have to wait then, I guess

I find it hard to believe that a new firmware update will cause cfw systems to become incompatible with PSN. I think that they are trying to say that you will have to update your firmware to access PSN, and therefore lose your custom firmware capabilities, unless they check for modified files and then blacklist your console. Just my 2 cents..
