Post: Is Xbox holding the PS3 back?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So, as some of you may know, the Battlefield 3 trailers have been showing off some amazing graphics and gameplay, but that is only for the PC version, and then it will be dumbed down for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Well, what I wonder is that would the Ps3 be able to handle graphics and gameplay like what Battlefield 3 is showing off? Is the Xbox, which is leading in sales, and what is thought of when most people think of consoles, holding the PS3 back.

If the Xbox weren't here, do you think that Dice may have tried to make the PS3 version look as good as the PC version. I think that the PS3 version could definitely look better than the Xbox version, no doubt about that, but as far as whether or not it would hold all that data that the PC versino will, I don't know. Killzone 3 is the first game that has used all the PS3 processing power, and that game doesn't seem like it is as advanced as the PC version of BF3.

But, is Killzone 3 using the processing power in different ways than BF3? Could we be getting some really great games taken away from us because of, for lack of a better word, Xbox's inferiority?

Now, I am not trying to start a console flame war, just stating my thoughts and thinking out loud here. What do you guys think about this issue? Are we going to be robbed of a better looking BF3 because of the inadequacies of the Xbox?

Killzone 3 uses sooo many polygon's, but Guerilla can do that since it's an exclusive. When a game is for more than one system, it has to be equal, or else gamers will buy the better version, and that would hurt the worse system. To answer your question, xbox is holding the ps3 back, but only a little.

A little? If you look at the games that are produced for both consoles, and then compare those to exclusives, the PS3 games blow the others out of the water. Now, the PC may be able to handle more, but in the end, the PS3 may get a version that has been dumbed down a lot more than it needed to be to run fine.

PS3 is definately getting held back by the 360. Look at dead space on 360 they needed 2 discs while ps3 didnt. You cant fit awesome graphics on a standard dvd without making the game have to be like 7 discs.

Cell processor that what makes Uncharted best looking game. Naughty dog said they have massive improvement on U3 with 98% power on PS3, U2 already use 58% power on PS3.

Multiplat games looks better on XBOX360 between 2006-2008 and only thing that XBOX360 have and PS3 don't have is Anti-aliasing in the GPU that what's make XBOX360 mutiplat and exclusive games look better but don't compare them when it comes to PS3 exclusive games.

Don't forget PS3 was differcult to program during that time because PS3 was new and dev's couldn't understand the PS3 program code (same as Sega saturn). From 2008-till now all dev's now are fully aware and understand how to use PS3 program, now mostly mutiplat games is no difference between XBOX360 and PS3 unless dev's made seperate port then we will see a big difference.
Check up on google, you find alot dev's saying they used to hate PS3 because it was hard to code and now they love because they learn so much of it and realise that PS3 is a powerfull console to this generation(TRUE FACT).

PS3 has 7 cores but at the moment PS3 use 6 core, Sony talking about PLAYSTATION 3.5 by unlocking 7 cores using PS3 update, so that means PS3.5 is slighty more powerful than that it was before.

Here another example, You have might remember this or not, crytek said that Crysis2 game will better version for PS3 than XBOX360 because PS3 will have it own Port for PS3.

Yes i do believe XBOX360 hold PS3 back in many ways, If XBOX360 doesn't exist then multiplat games will look much better for PS3 version.

Sorry bad English, im Italian

I think that if the Ps3 were to go down to match the price of a Xbox
then Xbox would sell NO more systems.
The ONLY reason anyone buys a Xbox over a PS3 is because its cheaper.
If the Ps3 was $200 that is all you would need to spend on the system and you can play online
With the xbox you would spend more to buy all the extra things you need for the xbox like Xbox live,A backup harddrive, and if you like bluray you would need to get a bluray player.

In Flames Much?
Time limits

Hardware limits

Sony and MS are holding back games these gen along with pubs
BF3 on consoles could be bigger if sony and MS had bigger bandwidth limits.

Xbox not holding the PS3 back sony is. Due to not planning out the online.

Yeah i undestand that they need better bandwidth limits.
BUT you have to understand that the xbox is kinda holding the PS3 back because the xbox is cheaper.
I am sure that if the PS3 was as cheap as the Xbox then xbox would no longer exist cause noone would buy them or pay for Live.
