Post: Is Xbox holding the PS3 back?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So, as some of you may know, the Battlefield 3 trailers have been showing off some amazing graphics and gameplay, but that is only for the PC version, and then it will be dumbed down for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Well, what I wonder is that would the Ps3 be able to handle graphics and gameplay like what Battlefield 3 is showing off? Is the Xbox, which is leading in sales, and what is thought of when most people think of consoles, holding the PS3 back.

If the Xbox weren't here, do you think that Dice may have tried to make the PS3 version look as good as the PC version. I think that the PS3 version could definitely look better than the Xbox version, no doubt about that, but as far as whether or not it would hold all that data that the PC versino will, I don't know. Killzone 3 is the first game that has used all the PS3 processing power, and that game doesn't seem like it is as advanced as the PC version of BF3.

But, is Killzone 3 using the processing power in different ways than BF3? Could we be getting some really great games taken away from us because of, for lack of a better word, Xbox's inferiority?

Now, I am not trying to start a console flame war, just stating my thoughts and thinking out loud here. What do you guys think about this issue? Are we going to be robbed of a better looking BF3 because of the inadequacies of the Xbox?

Exactly, BF3 is designed with current PC's in mind which can easily run at twice the PS3's power therefore only age is holding the PS3 back.

And Sony, worst management in the history of the videogame industry.

But, the PS3 can run games which require more power than the games that the Xbox can run. So, will Dice dumb down both version equally, therefore not fully utilizing the PS3's power? Or, will they dumb down each game as needed, in which case the PS3 will get a superior version than the Xbox's version?

That is more what I was trying to get at. Is the PS3 not getting the best games it can get because of the popularity of the Xbox? I mean if Dice were to dumb down BF3 only to the level which was necessary on each console, and not to a level necessary on one, but which is overkill on another, then the PS3 version would be far superior. What I think will end up happening though, is that Dice will dumb them down equally, giving the PS3 a game which could have very easily used 100% of its power, but instead falls short of how good it could have been, because Xbox can't handle that kind of game.

Bottom line is when it comes to Multi-Platforms 8/10 it will be in favour of the 360 as it's easier to code for and requires less work from Devs to port it over to PS3, there-fore resulting in a worse version for the PS3, that's where you get noobs running their mouth saying the PS3 can't handle shit.

But when it comes to PS3 Exclusives, built from the ground up running at full capacity on the Cell BE Processor, then it'll blow away anything the 360 offers and even give most, if not all, top-end PC gamers a run for their money!

Uncharted 2/3, Killzone 2/3, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, all these and more wouldn't even be possible on a PC unless you're willing to fork out £1000's!!

I'm sick to death of people posting un-necessary bs which doesn't relate to anything. Who cares which console can piss the longest. it's down to personal preference. I couldn't care if my ps3 has better specs than the xbox. My pc has better specs yet i'm not going to buy battlefield 3 for it due to the fact i personally prefer playing my xbox over ps3. I prefer ps3 for simulation such as gran turismo. for everything else i use the xbox, because of PERSONAL PREFERENCE

Well you have to remember the blu-ray man. I know this isn't ment to start the console war, but I also believe the Xbox holds the PS3 back. You have to remeber though both companies need money to survive in the gaming world and because the PC (Personal computer) is not a gaming object persay it will always be better for gaming. In the end yes Xbox does, but I agree with julianportman only a little.

It's not DICE's fault. If you have to blame anyone it's Sony for not making the PS3 easier to code.
