(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A group of hackers says it is planning another wave of cyberattacks against Sony in retaliation for its handling of the PlayStation Network breach.

An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony's Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony's servers.
Should the planned attack succeed, it would be the latest blow in a series of devastating security breaches of Sony's servers over the past month. The failure of Sony's server security has ignited investigations by the FBI, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the New York State Attorney General, a well as data security and privacy authorities in the U.K., Canada, and Taiwan.

Several weeks ago the hacker group known as Anonymous targeted several Sony Web sites, including Sony.com and SonyStyle.com, with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack in retaliation for what its members saw as Sony's unfair legal action against hacker George Hotz. Two weeks ago Sony's PlayStation Network, along with its Qriocity service and Sony Online, were the target of an attack that exposed the personal information of more than 100 million Sony customers. Sony was forced to shut down PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online, and is currently working to bring them back online after rebuilding the security of its servers.

Sony says it doesn't know who orchestrated what it's calling a "highly sophisticated, planned" attack, but it has dropped hints that the group Anonymous is involved. Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, told a Congressional subcommittee in a letter yesterday that the intruders on its servers planted a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline.

Anonymous issued a statement yesterday denying it was involved in the PSN breach. "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft," the statement said.
Now it seems the same group of hackers that was able to infiltrate the PSN servers is planning to hit back against Sony.
Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

That's all well and good, but Sony sued Geohot when he merely made installing your own OS on your own hardware possible again. They should have sued the guys that actually made piracy possible(not Geohot) and those who distributed the Blu-Ray Drive Emulator. That would have been fair, but Sony didn't care so they sued Geohot for doing something completely legal.

Also, if they don't care about consumer's rights(very important, see my last post) then why should we line their pockets with cash? Since they sued George Hotz I've permanently switched over to XBOX 360 whereas before I was considering being half and half, now I buy and play anything I can on the 360 and I pirate PS3-exclusive titles. And the same goes for the next generation of consoles, I know for sure which company's console to avoid. Just watch when x360key is released, Microsoft will patch it with a new firmware + private key and move on. They won't sue anyone because they appreciate the hacking community, not despise it.

So since they wanted to stop CFW to stop potential piracy, THEY DONT CARE ABOUT CONSUMER RIGHTS? You are just trying to rationalize why you pirate. That argument is no different than if I said "I use pirated Windows because I depise Microsoft." Though I dont like Microsoft, the real reason I have a bootleg copy is because I didnt want to pay $60 for Windows.

It's funny that you refuse "to line Sony's pockets" because they dont want you pirated games/they took Geohot(A GUY YOU HAVE PROBABLY NEVER MET) to court, BUT you will line MICROSOFT'S POCKETS?????

Thats like saying you refuse to support Target but you will support Walmart. You pirate games to save money, plain and simple. Dont try and rationalize and act like you are standing for something because in reality you are not. If you want to talk about Sony violating consumer rights fine. But honestly if you pirate and bootleg games what consumer rights should you have anyway? It seems like people who bootleg games and movies are the biggest critics. If you arent supporting the company financially, then what gives you the right to talk about what they are doing right or wrong. How can I complain about the quality of a Maroon 5 CD if I downloaded for free???

But using your rationale, I would say, "I only bootlegged because it was low quality"...I am a regular guy like you. All that "fighting for our rights propaganda" really means, "I want to save money and use bootleg games". I'm pretty sure your consumer rights go out the window once you use illegal videogames. Again I am NOT against piracy. I am against people trying to rationalize their piracy as anything more than trying to save a buck, because THAT is what piracy is for...

That's like saying weapons shouldn't be manufactured because criminals will get their hands on them lol, that really isn't a very good argument.

Besides, CFW has f*ck all to do with the intrusion into PSN.

Actually he has a good point. You have to have a permit to legally use weapons. So unless you have a permit in the laws eyes you are a criminal. Ask Plaxico Burress. And honestly whether fair or not. People usually believe if you would hack a videogame, you could hack anything. Just like if I steal $20 and get caught. Then $500 comes up missing, most people would assume I stole the $500 since I stole the $20. I cant say, "I would only steal $20, not $500"

The funniest thing is we agree CFW should be offline, and Sony has every right to prevent you from going online with it.

I just woke up and I havn't the effort to make a full reply lol, but in all honesty I am pirating PS3 games and legally buying 360 games for the reasons I already stated, Microsoft support the ability to hack even if piracy is a side-effect and Sony do not. I can't be bothered taking this debate any further because from your point of view I could easily be lying and be being very hypocritical although I assure you I am not. I think we'll just need to agree to disagree Smile
