(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A group of hackers says it is planning another wave of cyberattacks against Sony in retaliation for its handling of the PlayStation Network breach.

An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony's Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony's servers.
Should the planned attack succeed, it would be the latest blow in a series of devastating security breaches of Sony's servers over the past month. The failure of Sony's server security has ignited investigations by the FBI, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the New York State Attorney General, a well as data security and privacy authorities in the U.K., Canada, and Taiwan.

Several weeks ago the hacker group known as Anonymous targeted several Sony Web sites, including Sony.com and SonyStyle.com, with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack in retaliation for what its members saw as Sony's unfair legal action against hacker George Hotz. Two weeks ago Sony's PlayStation Network, along with its Qriocity service and Sony Online, were the target of an attack that exposed the personal information of more than 100 million Sony customers. Sony was forced to shut down PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online, and is currently working to bring them back online after rebuilding the security of its servers.

Sony says it doesn't know who orchestrated what it's calling a "highly sophisticated, planned" attack, but it has dropped hints that the group Anonymous is involved. Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, told a Congressional subcommittee in a letter yesterday that the intruders on its servers planted a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline.

Anonymous issued a statement yesterday denying it was involved in the PSN breach. "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft," the statement said.
Now it seems the same group of hackers that was able to infiltrate the PSN servers is planning to hit back against Sony.
Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

They use the consumers as an excuse to try and get what they want. This is just a group of pretentious nerds that will do anything to get what they want. They need to get a grasp on life and stop messing around with Sony.

Why is it so hard to get some information about the breaches and the location of where it happened. Its the 21st century and we have machines that can read your mind.

Consumer's rights my a$$, this is just getting plain pathetic. Just a bunch of nerdy kids/adults in their mom's basements with nothing to do but f--- things up for everyone. Consumer's rights...just a smoke screen to get people to support them or to justify why they would be doing it.

So Microsoft is breaking the law everytime it locks up a computer running pirated Windows? (keep in mind the hardware isn't even bought from MS yet this was a very common practice) That they have done it in the past is a simple fact, and I'm sure if your copy is not properly cracked, they still do. You sir are sadly mistaken, on many fronts. This CFW shit is all about piracy, and/or disrupting other people's online experience with bullshit cheats. I would guess that 95% of users installing CFW, do so for only those reasons, and no other. Sony does have the right to lock up your system to protect it's intellectual property, as well as that of it's developers. That is simply a legal fact, like it or not. Now let's get on to this other OS everybody has their collective panties in a knot over. I've owned a PS3 since shortly after it's release in the North America. I've never seen that function specifically advertised, let alone highly advertised as you people keep droning on about. I have Linux installed on Virtual PC on this computer, right now. I would never install it on my PS3, as I tried and it ran for shit. It was removed to prevent intrusion into their system, sadly all that did was delay the inevitable. Like it or not, your little buddy GeoHot forced their hand on that one. They reacted, legally and well within their rights. Now the backwards compatability they removed from my ancient fat PS3, that pissed me off a quite a bit. Again though, it's their right to modify their firmware as they see fit, it belongs to them, you only own a license to use it. I hate to break this to you, should the HD functionality (though in no way similar to this topic, as the PS3 is an entertainment system other OS was not a main selling point, only a bonus)become a threat to the companies security, Samsung could remove it. I'm not saying the way the law protects huge corporations to the point of making them untouchable is right, I'm just letting you know what actually is legal and what isn't.
