(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A group of hackers says it is planning another wave of cyberattacks against Sony in retaliation for its handling of the PlayStation Network breach.

An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony's Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony's servers.
Should the planned attack succeed, it would be the latest blow in a series of devastating security breaches of Sony's servers over the past month. The failure of Sony's server security has ignited investigations by the FBI, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the New York State Attorney General, a well as data security and privacy authorities in the U.K., Canada, and Taiwan.

Several weeks ago the hacker group known as Anonymous targeted several Sony Web sites, including Sony.com and SonyStyle.com, with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack in retaliation for what its members saw as Sony's unfair legal action against hacker George Hotz. Two weeks ago Sony's PlayStation Network, along with its Qriocity service and Sony Online, were the target of an attack that exposed the personal information of more than 100 million Sony customers. Sony was forced to shut down PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online, and is currently working to bring them back online after rebuilding the security of its servers.

Sony says it doesn't know who orchestrated what it's calling a "highly sophisticated, planned" attack, but it has dropped hints that the group Anonymous is involved. Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, told a Congressional subcommittee in a letter yesterday that the intruders on its servers planted a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline.

Anonymous issued a statement yesterday denying it was involved in the PSN breach. "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft," the statement said.
Now it seems the same group of hackers that was able to infiltrate the PSN servers is planning to hit back against Sony.
Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

do you actually think anon is behind this? there are some blind people. Say you were one hell of a hacker, and you wanted to score an ass load of CC's. So you hack Sony to get all the PSN info. But then they found out something is wrong and shut off the servers. They are now hunting you... What do you do, you hack the SOE servers and plant a confession note from the most likely suspect, who obviously isn't you. now a big pissed off bear is sniffing up someone else's tree while you sort your shit and get out of town before they catch on. I really think this is all misdirection, nothing more, to buy the real hacker time. Maybe a lifetime if they keep looking in the wrong direction out of a grudge against anon.

What consumers rights could you possibly be talking about? The right to jailbreak your PS3? You have that right if you live in the US, it was established in the US Supreme Court. Sony also has the right to deny you access to their online services after you break their TOS, and probably have the right to shut off your console permanently if you are silly enough to give them access, much the same as MS used to do after pirated Windows was detected on their website. Are you maybe talking about your "right" to the other OS function? Sony however has the right to modify it's FW any time it sees fit, including adding and removing functions, especially if it is in the interest of protecting their property, and preventing piracy. Like it or not, it's the damn truth.

This last round of shit had nothing to do with protecting consumer rights. If it did, they would have had no reason to transfer the databases containing all of our information. They would've simply shut down the servers. They didn't they went in grabbed what they wanted and tried to cover their asses on the way out.

Personally with all the law enforcement agencies involved and monitoring shit right now, I hope the little weasels do try something else. It's bad enough that the FBI and DHS are involved, there are also law enforcement from other nations monitoring this shit as well. I hope they live somewhere that doesn't have prisons that are in some cases like a damn summer camp. That way when they get busted good ole bubba can break them open like a double barreled shotgun, and make it look like a bloody half cooked egg broke open in their ass. Now that would be some justice, served up hard and fast with no lube.

Fighting against overpriced DLC, implementing Cross game chat is fighting for consumer rights. This is not some social movement. It is being butthurt Geohot went to court and trying to fight for the iright to pirate games.

I buy bootleg music but if Itunes takes a bootlegger to court, I am not fighting for him. It's ****ing regular gamers AND hackers over. Fight to lower game costs not to run a slow ass OS or to avenge some geek.

Buying a console doesn't give you the right to expect to play online after breaking said console's rules.

That's like saying I should be able to go to a theater and film Fast Five wth my camcorder because I bought it. And actually you have the right to jailbreak but Piracy & playing on Sony servers overrides that.

Some people on NGU live in a fantasy world. I run pirated Windows to save money but I'm not dumb enough to think what I am doing is right. Hacking is ok until you actually think you're entitled to be able to.

You've totally missed the point, if you purchase something you have the right to do whatever you want with the hardware. If you go online and get banned for using CFW then that's fine, as it's Sony's service and it would be breaking their ToS. However suing George Hotz for giving you the ability to do whatever you like with your hardware is a blatant abuse of consumer rights and Sony knew that, thus why they decided to settle w/ George Hotz out of court. Had they kept on fighting him in court they would have lost and a new precedent would have been set meaning anyone can release CFW on a console w/o the possibility of getting sued, which is precisely what Sony wants to avoid. As things stand right now hackers are still marred by fear of Sony suing them, and that is the only reason CFW 3.60 hasn't been released yet.

Oh and this has f*ck all to do with piracy, that's just a side-effect of opening up a system as closed as this. If someone pirates then Sony can sue them outside of the whole homebrew/CFW scene because they are not related.

They have the right to ban you from PSN but nothing more than that, if they bricked your console they would get sued to **** as that's illegal.

And in the case of Sony removing Other OS they removed a heavily advertised feature in PS3 consoles, it's the same as a company like Samsung selling you a 1080p TV then removing high definition the very next day. No different as far as the law is concerned.

P.S. I hate hackers like the ones that compromised and infiltrated PSN, so don't think I'm defending them. I'm merely defending consumer's rights which are immensely important.

They are two different groups of hackers. Anon are fighting for consumer's rights and the malicious hackers are stealing credit cards and whatnot, don't mix them up.

I agree but although you run CFW anyway. The only fun thing about CFW in my opinion are the emulaters and having hacks for games that have already been hacked specifically the Call of duty series. But it's also annoying to run into some 12 year old kid who thinks he's a hacker, and there's nothing you can do about it when he's the host but leave CFW being so easy to obtain most of everyone has it

With all the possibilities it's only right for Anonymous to become a prime suspect. Who ever it was they will get caught and tried and hopefully punished for this inconvenience they have caused.

What the hell is the point of attacking again if they're trying to bring it back. They're retarded if they go through with it and prove nothing.
