Sony Can Completely Disable Your PS3

Sony is doing everything in their power to prevent piracy on the PS3. They already said that they would "fix the issues through network updates". They've even sued Geohot and Fail0verflow.

But now they may be aiming the ban hammer at psn users. After all, Sony has way more access to our PS3's then you think. Every time you turn on your PS3 a log gets sent to Sony. This can potentially show them any homebrew apps your running.

But just banning consoles isn't all, we've all known that for awhile. Now, Sony can completely disable your console if they wanted to so, whether you’re online or offline, you PS3 will remain completely nonfunctional.

If Sony can't fix this CFW expect a wave of bans to come. I'm not trying to scare you, just warning you.

Buy another ps3. Jail break it and never use it online again. Problem solved.

2 types of people in this situation.

The ones that don't give a **** because they will buy another console or give up on sony and move on to Microsoft.

And the others that are scared to get banned, bricked, or whatever else. And go back to being angels.

Nice post Melo Smile

I for one, installed CFW, put on File Manager, went back to OFW, installed MW2 patch, deleted log and deleted File Manager.

Basically, my PS3 is the same it was at the beginning with the exception of MW2 patch.

I did this because I knew (as anyone with half a brain did) that Sony would speak out and something would probably happen (ie:bans). If nothing happens in the next weeks/months though, I'm going back to CFW and using homebrew.

If anyone knows, am I (and the people that did what I did) safe from bans? Or is it not known? Thanks!

So, umm should i be scared for an IP ban, or an account ban? i host Challenge lobbies for my friends, not for random people, and charge money. Its just something be and my friends do once an a while. If i get IP banned, my parents will probably not buy me a new ps3. So do you guys think this is true? because ill probably go back to regular firmware? its not that im scared, i just enjoy my PS3, please get back to me.

Look they are not going to do anything to our consoles that would prevent them from running the way they were meant; BUT like you mentioned they can ban your PSN account for any or no reason at all, and they can ban your PS3 from connecting to the SONY servers.

Half right - You could install your own OS as long as it supported IBM's Cell processor, however, it had to be dual booted with Sony software and therefore managed with a Sony bootloader. The information still remained for those that used OtherOS before it was removed, they just had no way to access it because Sony blocked OtherOS.

Actually in the EULA it states that Sony reserves the right to change the EULA whenever the **** they want to. It's not fair, it's not right, but the end users agreed to it.

Unfortunately Sony is in the legal right. We just have to hope that Geohot and fail0verflow can talk the lawyer talk and not get royally screwed.
