Post: Faking 3.41 as 3.51+

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So anyways... I was messing around with the 3.41 firmware file and finally got the PS3 to detect my 3.41 firmware file as a 3.51

I tried it and got this

So what I'm guessing is that you can't just fake the firmware version to update your PS3, something else has to be involved in the PS3's update. If anyone knows how to get past that error maybe we would be able to get 3.41 as a firmware above 3.50

I believe the error is caused by the checksum. We all can hex edit the update for 3.41 to make it look like 3.5. If you use the corrupt file it gives it will recognize it has a update to 3.5 but installing it is a different thing because it is corrupt due to the checksum. That's my theory on the error anyway. Suppose you could always try updating a lower firmware that 3.41 to an hex edited 3.41 to make it look like 3.5 but then again will most likely show the same error.

It may not update correnctly but wont it trick the games that have a 3.42 minimum firmware (e.g. Medal Of Honor) so that you can use them with the backup manager?

That problem has already been addressed and fixed with a new payload.

From what I read over at other forums, the error had to do with a flash drive, have you tried a different one?

The DL shouldn't be a problem tho because it's comming from a USB device. The real problem is the fact that Sony puts signatures all over their shit. If we could find where those signatures are and change the 3.41 fw to the 3.50s, the PS3 will probably take it. I can help as much as I can. Just PM me.
