I tried it and got this

So what I'm guessing is that you can't just fake the firmware version to update your PS3, something else has to be involved in the PS3's update. If anyone knows how to get past that error maybe we would be able to get 3.41 as a firmware above 3.50 :confused:

and also forgive me if Im stating abit of the obvious but dont all new firmware upgrades have the firmware within them meaning that if you try and update a 3.50 with a 3.41 .pup faked as a 3.51 then its going to recognise that something is missing isnt it?

Theory:
Every PS3 FW update has a different hash. When you install the (newest) update, it has a record of all the hashes of the previous updates. When you try to fake install 3.41, the PS3 finds the has (of a certain part of the .pup?) and compares it to the "real" 3.41 that your PS3 had before updating. If the they are the exact same, it knows that 3.41 was a "previous" FW and therefore wont let you install.
