Post: Faking 3.41 as 3.51+

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So anyways... I was messing around with the 3.41 firmware file and finally got the PS3 to detect my 3.41 firmware file as a 3.51

I tried it and got this

So what I'm guessing is that you can't just fake the firmware version to update your PS3, something else has to be involved in the PS3's update. If anyone knows how to get past that error maybe we would be able to get 3.41 as a firmware above 3.50

i think you should't "rename" the 3.41 as a 3.51 version because if you can upgrade and then something is wrong you wouldnt be able to go back to an original 3.50 version.

you can "rename" it as a 3.50.the system will allow you to update and you would be able to reinstall a 3.50 original update because it allows you to install again the same version you had installed.

i'm sorry because of my english, im spanish and i dont know if you catch what im trying to explain.

I doubt this would work but someone said they just used elite mossy pacth blocker and then just updated with fake file but I don't think he is telling me everthing but I don't think you need the signature for the fw but if someone does know please post i've been trying to jailbreak/downgrade since psjailbreak been out and it's a piss off

i dont think its possible. this requires no jailbreak so people have been able to edit these files since the ps3 1st come out

This is for HxD Hex Editor: (dunno about other hex editing programs)

1. On the 3.41 firmware file, click anywhere at the top of the file and press Ctrl + F

2. Where it says Datatype, switch it to Hex-values and put
03 00 41 in the search bar and search it.

It should look a little something like this:

Edit it to whatever you want your version to be
Search forward for another 2 times I believe

Do NOT edit anything that looks like this:

I am not 100% on this, but based on my understanding, those are also version files the ps3 reads (But I still got the error)

I just put this up incase someone is trying to do the same
I checked the same thing on the other 2 firmwares and got the same results (03 00 42 in a 3.42 file and 3.50 etc.)

I did what you said but with an old 3.30 ps3 .PUP file but it gave me the same numbers as your screenshot of the 3.41 update file 03 00 41
and also forgive me if Im stating abit of the obvious but dont all new firmware upgrades have the firmware within them meaning that if you try and update a 3.50 with a 3.41 .pup faked as a 3.51 then its going to recognise that something is missing isnt it?

Why Dont You trying Installing It Through The Ps3 recovery Menu,To Get To it,Switch of the ps3,Switch it back on,Hold down the power button till it powers on beeps a few times then switches off,Then hold it again,Untill it beeps twice,Then You Have the recovery menu where you can select install firmware update
