This September, Sony will launch a new program called ‘PSN Pass’–available only, “in countries that have PlayStation Store”. Games that come with PSN Pass will include a registration code that is good for one-time use to enable online play. The first game to make use of PSN Pass program appears to be Resistance 3 (see image above, from Konsolentreff). Obviously, you will have to purchase a new PSN Pass registration code for used games that carries the PSN Pass emblem. Gaming site IGN contacted SCEA for clarification and this is the response:

We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities.
This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.

This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.

so the part that says "Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title." would mean that if i were to get a new ps3 i wouldnt need to buy a pass since im using the same account right?

u wont have to pay extra to play online if u buy the game new

this is more of a product key as mentioned before to allow the account holder access to the games features

and if u was to buy the game preowned u probably wouldnt pay anything near the price of the game new

Well how much is it? I'm getting an Xbox regardless though. I mean if we have to pay $60 for a game then like $15-20 for online, thats horseshit. Almost $100 for a ****ing game.

It's clear that they had to do this, i mean where did you think gonna recover all the money lost on the outage?? at my point its not fair, since we pay for the console and the services on it, this named ONLINE PLAYING and everything relatd such as the games.

if this became a reality then expect all the coming titles should adopt this crap for sure.

wow this is a freaking load i will hate sony if they do this. i ean i didnt pre order resistance 3 but is like to get it and not have to pay extra to play it online. i have a few reasons
- alot of big titles are coming out late this year mw3,bf3,resistance3,ect
- ill barely be able to buy 1 of those when they come out or sucker my mom into another one let alone pay extra for some freakin pass shit
- xbox makes you pay like 50-60 dollars for A WHOLE YEAR UNLIMITED GAMING
- sony will make a racket off this because resistance will be big maybe an extra 10 or 20 a copy
- each game will be 59.99 alone then the money for this pass prolly 65 or75 per copy of each "participating" games
BOTTOM LINE= if this goes good and is put on other games i will have to keep on xbox because i will never be able to afford PS3 anymore
SONY BAD IDEA BAAAAAD!!!! WTF SONY

lmao if sony make's us pay for online, whats the point in staying with the PS3? Might as well just get a xbox, the free online from sony made the ps3 fightable with the xbox. Take away free online, you might as well buy a xbox more features ftw. And a lot of good titles ps3 dont have.

the main reason people bought the ps3 rather than xbox is because IT HAD FREE ONLINE, Hope fully it will only be applied to some games and not games such as mw3,bf3,tekken x streetfighter, etc other wise it's xbox for me..

this isn't a problem at all if you buy your games brand new...of course i can hardly ever afford to buy new these days. So the way I understand it, brand new titles that are PSN Pass branded will have the code with the game, which in that case you're still paying the same $59.99 or so for that new game.

For people like me that buys used, that hurts. I wonder how companies like Blockbuster or Redbox fills about this, since they rent out games, which many has multiplayer possibilities. Hopefully it won't cost too much to buy the pass if you buy used, or I will go trade in my PS3 and games for XBox, might as well pay for better service.
