This September, Sony will launch a new program called ‘PSN Pass’–available only, “in countries that have PlayStation Store”. Games that come with PSN Pass will include a registration code that is good for one-time use to enable online play. The first game to make use of PSN Pass program appears to be Resistance 3 (see image above, from Konsolentreff). Obviously, you will have to purchase a new PSN Pass registration code for used games that carries the PSN Pass emblem. Gaming site IGN contacted SCEA for clarification and this is the response:

We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities.
This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.

This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.

this is horrible, i recently updated one of my other ps3s to 3.66 so i can do online lan games. I hope non of the games released before september will require any kind of online pass.
If anything, they shouldnt charge over $1.. I can see sonys idea for this, technically PSM is still free.

Also i think people should consider this if they are now thinking xbl will cost less in the long run, with ps3 you can gameshare a account with 4 other consoles meaning a map pack costing $15 can be split up between friends for $3 each person. which means after 3 dlc's u could save a lot $9>$45.
In-all, some games will be better for getting on ps3 and others will be better for xbl.

you realize that they SHOULDN'T make any money on the used game market because they made money when they sold it to you the first time. why should a game maker make money on an item it sold the second time?

there doing this because sony won the geohot case and it shows through the law the game makers have us consumers by the balls right now and they can charge wtf they want and we are forced to buy it.

I never said I agreed to the fact... I was just saying, even if they did profit they would still spit out shitty games and material.

no what you said is that they are doing this because they don't make money off of the used game market. saying that is idiotic because they are not suppose to make money off of items they sold to someone else, if i sell you a blanket i made, you used it for a year and sell it to your buddy, am i suppose to profit off of that sale to ur buddy? no, that is what im explaining.

Imagine how a company like gamefly is going to take this??? This will make a huge impact on them. My friend has gamefly, just so he doesn't have to buy a game every time they come out... now when he has them, he can't even go online, that sucks. To be honest, I understand that they don't want piracy, but Sony should find another way to stop this because think about it... If you buy a used game, it was already bought new from someone else. The company already got their money, but now we have give more money to Sony just so we can re-purchase the item. That is messed up and is a stupid move.

It is still free... just if you buy a used game... you have to pay $10 dollars just to go online. that is insane!!! I wonder, if companies like gamefly will strike a deal with Sony, so that people can still get online using a gamefly game

you get a free pass when u buy the game, even if its pre owned aslong as you provide pics of the game case manual and disk(s) and the code on the disk(s)

/facepalm, atleast ity cuts out piracy kinda, the more piracy the less likely we will get better games the developers will have to be brought by sony to make them games and sony never do this

In Flames Much?
Don't think it a good idea.......
If you want to stop used game sells look at why people buy them it cheaper

Cheaper games to start with would be a better idea then a product key/pass system with little reward for buying new.
